MapVault ("we," "us," or "our") operates the MapVault mobile application for iOS and Android. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address. This is the minimum information needed to create and manage your account.
Place Data
You choose what to save. This includes place names, location coordinates, tags, notes, and visited status. This data is yours — we store it to provide the service.
Usage Analytics
We use PostHog to collect usage analytics to help us understand which features are used most and improve the app. Analytics events may be associated with a pseudonymous user identifier. We do not use this data for advertising purposes.
Error Reports
We use Sentry to collect crash and error reports. These contain technical information about the error (device type, OS version, stack traces) but do not include your personal content.
Subscription & Purchase Data
If you subscribe to MapVault Premium, your subscription status and purchase history are managed by RevenueCat. We do not store your payment card details — these are handled entirely by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play.
Email Address (Marketing)
If you have opted in to receive product updates and news from MapVault, your email address is stored in MailerLite, our email marketing platform. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any marketing email we send.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Provide and operate the MapVault service
- Sync your saved places across devices
- Enable shared maps and invite features
- Improve the app based on usage patterns
- Diagnose and fix bugs and crashes
- Manage your Premium subscription
- Send transactional emails (e.g., map invites, account notifications)
- Send product updates and news (only if you have opted in)
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
We share data only with the following service providers, strictly to operate the app:

When you share a map with other users via an invite link, those users can see the places, tags, and notes on that map.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, with industry-standard encryption applied both in transit (TLS) and at rest. We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your data from our active systems.
5. Your Rights
Under the GDPR and other applicable privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your account and all associated data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent for marketing emails at any time (via unsubscribe link or by contacting us)

6. Children's Privacy
MapVault is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by email. Continued use of MapVault after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
